Homework Week of November 2 to 5

Dear Students and Parents,

Here is a breakdown of this week's homework and our class concepts:

Concepts for the Week:

READING: We are reading both fiction and informational text practicing identifying the themes and summarizing. A take away is to support your ideas from specific information in the text.

WRITING:  We continue our discussion and practice of opinion writing, looking at pros and cons, considering the other side's point of view, and structuring/organizing how to write an opinion paragraph/essay.  Opinion writing will be our focus until Dec 4th.

SPELLING: We are studying more vocabulary words, this time focusing on the root "ped," meaning foot.

MATH: We are continuing our discussion of factors, factor pairs, prime, and composite numbers, and solving multiplicative comparisons problems. The core goals include: The students will know all the factor pairs for whole numbers 1-100, Recognize that a whole number is a multiple of its factors,  and Interpret a multiplication equation as a comparison. For example, 35 = 5 x 7, meaning that 35 is 5 times as many as 7 and 7 times as many as 5. The students are learning strategies that help them to prove a multiple 2-100 is prime or composite including rules of divisibility. The students will learn how to solve multiplicative comparison problems with word problems and number line.
